"The Co-operative Model in Practice: International Perspectives"

The Co-operative Education Trust Scotland is pleased to announce the launch of its new higher education resource ‘The Co-operative Model in Practice: International Perspectives’. This timely collection of essays draws together the research of fourteen international scholars to examine how the co-operative business model functions in practice within diverse cultural and social contexts. Model in Practice will be of interest to students and scholars in economics, business studies, sustainable development, history, and organisational theory and behaviour. It also serves as a valuable resource for policy-makers seeking alternative models for organising enterprise and society. Available for free under the Creative Commons license, Model in Practice can be accessed at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/cets/resources/coop-model/.

8th Workshop on the Challenges of Managing the Third Sector, Galway (Ireland), 9-10 june 2011, call for papers until 3 march

The Third Sector - such as the voluntary, charitable, financial co-operative, religious, health and educational organisations which sit outside the confines of the private (‘profit’) and public sectors - is facing a rapidly changing environment which challenges its efficient management and continuation. This research workshop seeks to examine current influences on the effective operation of these non-profit organisations. We are interested in high quality research papers which address the managerial challenges facing this sector. The organisers are particularly interested in the results of managerial, economic and inter-disciplinary approaches.

This workshop will be of interest to researchers active in this area but also to policy-makers, senior managers and practitioners from all disciplines.
